EDITORIAL & PHOTOGRAPHY SUBMISSIONS

GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

We welcome enquiries from writers and photographers who wish to be contributors. Please send all queries to enquiries@showcircuit.co.nz

 

Editorial Submissions

  • Freelance submissions on equine-related topics are welcome. We prefer informational, training and how-to articles and those centred around equestrian sports and horse people

  • Feature articles should be typed and submitted as a Microsoft Word document. Articles are averaged at 1200-1800 words and should be accompanied by photographs (see Image Guidelines below)

  • If you wish to submit an article, please send a detailed outline to enquiries@showcircuit.co.nz

  • We do not accept stories told from a first-person perspective, fiction, or poetry

  • By submitting an article to Show Circuit Magazine, the contributor grants to Show Circuit Magazine an exclusive right to publish. This right extends to all media including digital and web and will lapse only if Show Circuit Magazine expressly declines the submitted article

  • Please note that the decision on whether or not to publish an article rests solely with Show Circuit Magazine. Acceptance of a submission should not be seen as a guarantee of publication

  • While undertaking any commission for Show Circuit Magazine, all freelance contributors are responsible for ensuring that they meet the Health & Safety requirements of Show Circuit Magazine

 

Equestrian Event Photo Essays

Show Circuit’s coverage of equestrian events includes photo essays. Photo essays are usually 12-20 images. Captions must be provided in a Word document as follows –

  • Rider’s Name – HORSE’S NAME IN CAPITALS, Placing and Class

  • Images must be numbered to correspond with the captions

  • By submitting photo essay images to Show Circuit Magazine, the photographer grants to Show Circuit Magazine an exclusive right to publish. This right extends to all media including digital and web and will lapse only if Show Circuit Magazine expressly declines the submitted images

  • Please note that the decision on whether or not to publish a photo essay rests solely with Show Circuit Magazine. Acceptance of a submission should not be seen as a guarantee of publication

  • While undertaking any commission for Show Circuit Magazine, all freelance contributors are responsible for ensuring that they meet the Health & Safety requirements of Show Circuit Magazine

 

Image Guidelines

  • Images must be of professional quality. We prefer images to be unprocessed, although cropping and straightening together with minimal colour control and contrast adjustment is acceptable

  • If images are submitted to accompany editorial, and they have been taken by a professional photographer, please include written permission from the photographer along with photo credit details. Please confirm with the photographer that the image(s) have not been used elsewhere

  • Images are paid for on a one-time use basis (if accepted for publication). Show Circuit reserves the right for a reprint of all submissions. For each subsequent use, the photographer will receive an additional payment of 20% of the one-time use cost

  • Images submitted will be made available for digital promotion on our website or social media platforms at no additional cost.

HEALTH & SAFETY FOR CONTRIBUTORS

Guidelines

  • All contributors are responsible for their own safety and must act safely at all times when representing Show Circuit Magazine.

  • All contributors must comply with all the Health & Safety conditions of the show/event where they attend on behalf of Show Circuit Magazine.

  • Any hazards identified need to be reported to the equestrian office at the show/event.

  • Most shows/events have a copy of their Health and Safety plan and should be adhered to at all times.
